Earlier this month I read this post over on cooking without limits and it got me thinking about Christmas and what it means to me.
With 2 days to go until the big day it, is finally starting to feel like Christmas is coming.
Working in retail it’s very easy to get lost in the commercialisation of the holiday with all the shopping that comes with it.
But as December has gone on there have been little things to remind me that Christmas is just round the corner.
Such as the annual visits from the extended family made even more special this year as I was off work so actually got to see them for the entire day.
For me it is the food that makes this time of year so special and acts as the ultimate reminder that Christmas is coming. From planning the meal for the big day, and the experimentation leading up to it.
Through to those foods and drinks that only make an appearance this time of year from the drinks with their scents of orange, cinnamon and ginger through to the various snack items with their alluring scents and rich flavours.
So what is it about these foods and drinks that make them so special, it is not only the fact for many their availability is generally limited to this time of year, it is also the nature of the foods themselves, this being that they are generally designed for sharing therefore bringing people together and that is what makes this time of year so special.
So from us here at gastronomic wanderings we wish you and the people you choose to share this special time year with a Merry Christmas.
